Assorted RPMS for Centos 5
Compiled by Frank Cox
If you are looking for Centos 6 rpms, click here.
I have compiled some rpms on Centos 5 for my own use and I am making them available here for anyone else who may also want them.
I didn't write any of these programs; I just use them on a regular basis.
These are i386 rpms that have been compiled on either my Acer Aspire One laptop or an Intel Core 2 application server, and x86_64 rpms that have been compiled on my i7-940 desktop, all running Centos 5. The source rpm used to create the binaries is here as well.
AdvanceCOMP is a collection of recompression utilities for your .ZIP archives, .PNG snapshots, .MNG video clips and .GZ files. I mostly use the included advpng utility to compress png files for posting on webpages and the like.

DOSEMU stands for DOS Emulation, and allows you to run DOS and many DOS programs, including many DPMI applications such as DOOM and Windows 3.1, under Linux. This version is from svn revision 1999, dated January 26, 2010.
Note for x86_64 architectures:
DOSEMU's default cpu emulation setting on x86_64 is “vm86”. Click here to download a program (named tester.exe) that will cause DOSEMU to crash when run on x86_64 using the default cpu emulation setting. By changing the cpu emulation setting to “vm86sim”, the tester.exe program doesn't crash.
tester.exe doesn't really do anything; it either crashes DOSEMU or it returns to the C: prompt. The source code (written in PowerBASIC) is included so you can see what it does.

XMMS is the X MultiMedia System. It is the “classic” Unix audio player for MP3, OGG, WAV and several other audio file formats, including streaming audio. I use it to listen to CreekFM.
This is XMMS version version 1.2.11, the latest (final?) version of XMMS dated January 11, 2004. The tar archives each contain 7 rpm files: the main XMMS program, ALSA output, Esound output, Mikmod input, Ogg Vorbis input, the OpenGL Visual plugin and the -devel header rpm that is required if you want to compile your own XMMS plugins (which you probably don't need).

Note: To make XMMS look the way that it does in the above screenshot, you require the Bluecurve XMMS skin. This skin is currently provided in the redhat-artwork rpm, one of the rpms that is automatically installed when you set up Centos. However, if you require a copy of the Bluecurve XMMS skin as a separate rpm for any reason, here it is. This is a “noarch” rpm so it will work on both i386 and x86_64 machines.

xsidplay
xsidplay is a player for Commodore 64 tunes, i.e SID tunes. As the program consists of just one binary executable, I didn't make it into a rpm. You can just copy the executable anywhere in your path, such as /usr/local/bin. xsidplay requires libsidplayer, which can also be downloaded from this webpage.
